ANNGELLE WOOD’S RISING TIDE SERIES KEEPS BOSTON’S FEMALE ROCKERS IN THE LIMELIGHT

Emily Grogan, My Little Radio, The Snowleopards, and Gretel perform

Cambridge, MA, November 1, 2005 – Boston radio personality Anngelle Wood (WZLX/WMFO) returns with another installment of her live music series showcasing female acts from Boston and New England. Since its 2003 inception, the series continues to focus on women musicians and their bands. The next event takes place Saturday, November 12 at the Lizard Lounge with Emily Grogan, My Little Radio, The Snowleopards, and Gretel. Tickets are $8.00. The Lizard Lounge is at 1667 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, 617-547-0759. The show is 21+, doors at 9pm.

Performing on November 12 is the tragically inspired and inspiring Emily Grogan and her band; Grogan, a multi-faceted rocker and songwriter, bares her soul in her music. Her talent stretches far beyond three chord rock as she was properly trained on classical piano then jazz in college; she also plays guitar, saxophone, bass, drums, and harmonica – and can often be heard playing several at once. Her newly released “iO” is just the icing on the cake to what this woman has to offer. It will (and certainly should) be on many year-end best lists.

Relative newbies My Little Radio are up-and-comers whose energy and passion begins with the diminutive yet mighty 21-year-old singer Kate O’Brien. She pours every last ounce of her heart into her dynamic vocals. Formed in 2003, MLR has been conquering the east coast music scene with its ever-flowing energy and intensity. With influences ranging from The Police, The Clash, The Cure, Tears for Fears and Underoath, the band has a little bit of everything fused into its sound. My Little Radio’s highly-anticipated full-length debut will be released in early 2006.

The Snowleopards, featuring Heidi Saperstein (Kimchee Rec) on vocals & rhythm guitar and Mike Oor (ex-Runner & Thermodynamics/Ace Fu Rec) on lead guitar, is a guitar-based pop band whose sound is pulled from Motown, ‘60s/’70s rock acts like the Rolling Stones and Free, as well as ‘80s female rock-pop like Pat Benatar. The band evolved into a local “supergroup” of sorts with the addition of Paul Trudeau (ex-Harvey Milk) on drums and Jim Zavadoski (ex-Damn Personals) on bass. The band’s debut EP is currently in production.

Gretel, led by songwriter and mouthpiece Reva Williams, has an eclectic sound that pays homage to everything from folk to alt country to the blues. Whether through the existential pinch of a digital pulse, the ecstatic heights of an operatic line or the muddy optimism of a gospel choir, Gretel’s palette is broad. Founded in September 2003, Gretel recently released its debut, “Unreturnable Dirt” on Eyeteeth Records.
